Welcome to the Food Export - Northeast Seafood Blog

Over the last several decades, the Northeast seafood industry has developed a reputation for delivering delicious, high-quality, consistent products to foreign markets. However today, many in the industry, especially lobster harvesters and shoreside dealers, are working against a strong headwind - previously  well-developed international markets are now tariff-impacted ones. Since 2004, Food Export–Northeast has been working closely with companies in the seafood industry from the 10 Northeast states to facilitate trade between suppliers and worldwide importers and to promote the export of their products. Today more than ever, we are focused on expanding new international markets for the Northeast seafood industry, while also paying close attention to tariff-impacted markets, knowing we will have to rebuild them once trade barriers are lifted.

To suppliers in the industry, we want you to know we are here to help and support you. We have extensive programs and educational offerings to help you sell your products overseas. We can support you by identifying the right markets for your business, introducing you to the right buyers and sharing costs for in-market marketing and promotional opportunities. And with a recent injection of significant new multi-year federal funding, we are ramping up our efforts to open new markets for you.

To keep our many stakeholders updated on our efforts, we’ve created the Food Export–Northeast Seafood Blog. Each month, we’ll send you the latest news, details about upcoming activities, success stories and more. It will be a place where suppliers can learn about what’s available to help them to smartly and cost-effectively build their export business - from the smallest company learning about exporting, to businesses with a robust export strategy looking to expand into new markets. For our industry partners and the many government officials we regularly collaborate with, the news and stories we’ll share are designed to keep you updated too and remind you of our organizational commitment to ensure that Northeast coastal fisheries remain strong and resilient.

About Food Export USA—Northeast

With its extensive programs and educational offerings, Food Export USA–Northeast (Food Export–Northeast) is recognized as the preeminent expert and cost-effective resource for Northeast seafood and agricultural suppliers looking to sell their products overseas. Founded in 1973, Food Export–Northeast is a non-profit organization that works collaboratively with its 10 member states’ agricultural promotion agencies from Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont, to facilitate trade between suppliers and worldwide importers and to promote the export of food, agricultural and seafood products from those states. Since its founding, the organization has helped Northeast seafood suppliers gain access to a broad range of export markets, supported overseas in-market educational and promotional programs and offers emerging suppliers access to funds to help grow their export business. The organization is funded through the Market Access Program (MAP), administered by the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service.
