Longtime New England Seafood Company Benefits From Seafood Show

John Nagle & Co is a leader in the wholefood seafood industry, having been in operation since 1887. The company recently returned after a twenty year absence to exhibit in the Massachusetts aisle at the Seafood Expo North America Trade Show.

Scott McDonald, Sales Associate, mentioned that they decided to return to the show because of Food Export - Northeast’s assistance, recognizing the need to expand.

Scott mentioned that, “We felt with the Agricultural Trade Promotion cost sharing assistance of the Branded Program, we were able to connect with many interested parties at the show looking to export fresh and frozen seafood products.” In fact, the booth in the Massachusetts aisle attracted a variety of industry people. “A Canadian Seafood Buyer was very interested in our product lines and we are in discussion now regarding exporting oysters and ground fish, such as cod and haddock. The assistance is tremendous to local fisherman who want to export their local seafood products. It was great to be a part of the Massachusetts ribbon cutting aisle, participating in the program helped us get there and we are looking to return in 2020.”

John Nagle  & Co. traces roots back to 1887 when their great-grandfather, John J. Nagle, first began as a New England fisherman in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Over time, he earned the trust of his peers to represent them, selling their hard-earned catch for a fair value. As his reputation for integrity spread, the fishermen and John's business flourished. His success prompted a move to Boston, where he became one of the founders of the Boston Fish Pier. Over the next century, the company emerged as a leader in the wholesale seafood industry. This leadership position endures as the fourth and fifth generations of the Nagle family continue to deliver on our company's unfailing commitment to quality and service.

Today, John Nagle's great-grandson, Charles Nagle, leads the company with the same steady hand and traditional values as our company's namesake. The company provides fresh and frozen seafood products to the world.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
