Cherry Central Grows Exports to South Korea

by Food Export | Aug 29, 2019
Cherry Central Cooperative, Inc. based in Traverse City, Michigan is the industry leader in red tart cherries, apples, and blueberries and is also a major supplier of cranberries, strawberries, pomegranate arils, and asparagus grown on farms across the United States. They are a veteran exporter who sends their products all around the world including to countries in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

The Michigan company has utilized Food Export – Midwest’s Market Access Program (MAP) funded Branded Program since 1998. Utilizing the 50% cost reimbursement program to defer costs associated with a wide variety of international marketing activities allows for the company to expand their brand in new and existing export markets.

In 2018 Cherry Central utilized their allocated Branded Program funds to attend international trade shows where they promoted their fruit juices, sauces, ciders and dried products. This helped the company gain over 150 new foreign buyer contacts and gain $15,000 in export sales to South Korea last year.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
