Dakota Specialty Enterprises Continues Market Presence in Thailand with Food Export - Midwest

by Food Export | Dec 30, 2019
In September 2019, Dakota Specialty Enterprises, Inc., located in Fargo, North Dakota, exhibited at the Food Ingredients Asia Tradeshow in Indonesia and used Food Export - Midwest’s Food Show PLUS!™ services at the show.

The Food Show PLUS!™ service included various offerings to help Dakota Specialty Enterprises maximize their show experience.  These services included introductions with buyers during the show and on-site show assistance from Food Export’s local In-Market Representative.

According to Akie Funai, Director of International Sales with Dakota Specialty Enterprises, Inc., “The team behind the Food Show Plus service at FIA Bangkok took us to retail tours upon our request one day before the show and had set up a number of meetings with prospective buyers for us during the retail tours. All around, first class service. Their service is highly recommended for anyone who will go to Southeast Asia.”

To help offset the costs of exhibiting at the show, Dakota Specialty Enterprises used Food Export – Midwest’s Branded Program. This program helps eligible U.S. Suppliers receive 50% reimbursement on their booth fees and travel costs to international tradeshows, such as Food Ingredients Asia.

As a result of the show and the buyers they met with, Dakota Specialty Enterprises was able to meet face-to-face for the first time with an existing client.  According to Funai, the opportunity to meet in person with this business partner was critical in building a lasting business relationship between the two companies.  Thailand currently represents 10% of export sales for the company.

Dakota Specialty Enterprises, Inc. is a producer of milled ingredients and wholegrain blends in the baked goods market segment.  Although they are already exporting into 10 foreign markets, they continue to find Food Export Association’s programs and services valuable for developing new market opportunities.

Food Export uses funding from the Market Access Program (MAP) to help America’s small businesses increase their exports of food and agricultural products. As these exports increase, these small businesses are creating jobs and improving the strength and stability of our agricultural economy. Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast are non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with their member state departments of agriculture and the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. They offer a wide range of programs and services that help boost America’s agricultural exports.
